A couple of weeks ago now, I was racing around the shops on the hunt for a birthday gift for a good friend of mine. I'd already found some nic-nacs, but needed another little something to add to the collection.
Homemade is the first thing that sprung to mind! Simply because, the effort put in goes a long way. I know that if I ever receive a homemade gift, it makes me truly happy. Someone's given their time, which is often more valuable than anything else. (Especially in London, I mean who has time these days!?) Anyway, I'd seen some bottled oils for sale and thought, well I can do that...So I did.
And yes, it's simple. And fiery, and delicious!
Not to mention, if you aren't into your spicey food, you can trade the chilli for garlic or truffles if you're feeling adventurous.
(This is completely dependent on how large or small your bottle is!)
1 - 2 tbsp dried chilli
5 fresh chillies
Heat the oil in a saucepan with the dried chillies. Simmer for a couple of minutes until hot (not bubbling) And leave to cool for a good 5 minutes. Be careful, the oil will be piping so don't spill any! Then you need to transfer the oil into the bottle. To do this safely, use a funnel. To finish, add some whole fresh chillies into the bottle.
The perfect little homemade gift.
